There will be a residential camp in Greece 2008. The event starts on the afternoon of Tuesday 14th October will finish noon on Sunday 19th October.

The venue is the hotel Hotel Amalia - Meteora Kalambaka between Athens and Thessaloniki (about five hours drive from Athens).

The standard cost is €550 which includes five nights shared accommodation with breakfast and an evening meal, training lessons for five days. A deposit of €250 is required by 1st July 2008.

Practice hours: 9.30 - 13.30 & 17.00-19.30 (subject to slight change: to be confirmed at camp). First lesson will start Tuesday 14th October at 17.00

If places are full (given to large demand already) you might have to wait till a cancellation happens but let us know you are interested. For the moment a lot of people have provisionaly booked and numbers are almost full.

Travel Information

Closer to the time there will more detailed information with timetables and will be given to those who have booked for the camp. From Athens airport take bus 95 or metro to Syntagma. From there you take taxi to train station (Stathmos Larissis) or bus station (Stathmos Liosion). There are trains from Athens to Kalampaka from Stathmos Larissis. Check with OSE in English tel. +30 2105297777 or +301110. From Kalampaka a taxi to the hotel costs apporx. 6 euros.Another way is by bus Athens to Kalmpaka. Main bus station: KTEL Liosion street 260. Tel. +302108311434. Take a bus to Trikala and from there you continue with different or same bus to Kalampaka. Journey time by car is around 5 hours from Athens (could be longer by bus or train)

Venue and the surrounding area

This time our camp will be on the mainland away from seaside. Our hotel is 2.5 kilometres outside Kalampaka city near Meteora which is a unique nature attraction with monasteries built on top of high rocks. Meteora is 15 minutes drive from the hotel Amalia. It takes a few hours to see all the monasteries. It will be possible to arrange a guided tour from the hotel for smalll groups.

The weather could be not so warm so it is advised to take rain coat too. Approx. temerature for that time could be 20-25 C.

Costs and other details

Total cost for twin accommodation it will be €550, for single €725 and triple (three beds) €500.

Prices for those who wish to stay extra days in the hotel (important to book early) are: single bedroom: 85 euro per night, twin bedroom 100 euros per night (50 euros per person) and three beds: 120 euros per night (40 euros per person). All prices include breakfast and dinner. You need to mention you are for the Tai Chi Chuan workshop 14-19 oct organiser Lydia Tillianaki

Extra expenses during your visit must be paid by you at the end of your stay. Your camp costs covers you accommodation half board (room, breakfast and dinner but not lunch) and lessons only for the period 14 to 19 October 2008 (5 nights not including the night of 19 October) You will have to book your extra nights yourself and pay for them separately the hotel as well as your extra expenses during your stay.

Lunch will not be provided as part of the payment, but you can eat at the hotel restaurant if you wish. Nearer at the time or at the camp you will be given directions for the restaurants close by if you wish to eat outside the hotel. A lot of Greek students will be there and may be they can help with lifts to Kalampaka city for lunch.

Dinner will be a buffet which will satisfy vegetarians too. Fresh fish is not a speciality of the area.

Shuttle Bus

There is a proposal to hire a shuttle that can take people from Athens (Nea Smyrni area) on Tuesday morning to go the Meteora and leave for Athens on Sunday after lunch to return to Athens. During the camp, this shuttle can take people for lunch every day and also for sight seeing. On return to Athens, the shuttle bus will not go to airport but will go back to Nea Smyrni (on Sunday evening). The cost is not fixed yet, but will around €50 per person for the whole time if 40 people are on the bus. The price will be more if there are fewer people.
